GROVE, Okla. — A two-hour search by the Delaware County Sheriff's office and agencies led to returning a lost child home.
Josh Bynum, Delaware County Sheriff's Public Information Officer, said authorities were notified that an 8-year-old autistic child had wandered off from his residence around 3 p.m. on Sunday. The child was last seen walking to a wooded area in the Butler area of Grand Lake without shoes or a jacket.
During the two-hour search, drones and tracking dogs were used to locate the child, who was found approximately a half mile from his house. Bynum said the child was checked by medical staff and cleared.
Multiple agencies were involved in the search, including Grove Emergency Management Services, the Butler Fire Department, Grand River Dam Authority, Cherokee Nation Marshals, Mayes County Sheriff's Office, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Oklahoma Wildlife, Grove Fire Department, and the Cowskin Fire Department.
