KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The NFL’s annual My Cause My Cleats initiative is underway. Each year, players wear custom-designed cleats to demonstrate support for a particular cause during Weeks 13 and 14 of the NFL season.

All of the profits from the auction go back to the charity of their choosing.

Patrick Mahomes has a pair of custom game-worn cleats up for auction.

Mahomes announced last week that money from the My Cause My Cleats auction will support the rollout of the newest initiative to the 15 and Mahomies Foundation called 15 and FARE.

The program aims to bring critical food allergy safety resources to families and restaurants in Kansas City.

In October, Patrick and Brittany Mahomes teamed up with FARE, which stands for food allergy research and education.

“We're really grateful to Brittany and Patrick for making all of this possible. Bringing FARE neighborhoods and food allergy research and education to Kansas City,” said Sung Poblete, PhD, RN, CEO of FARE. “Including making certain that all of those with food allergies have Epinephrine, which is the only life-saving drug that can save someone's life during an anaphylactic reaction, and ensuring that restaurants are properly trained to care for someone with food allergies.”

Last week, the 15 and Mahomies foundation announced on Instagram that 15 and FARE would be the recipient of this year’s My Cause My Cleats auction.

Mahomes wore the custom “15 FARE” cleats that are up for auction during the Chiefs' Week 13 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Poblete is also a food allergy patient. She said just last night, she needed to use Epinephrine.

“If I did not have my Epinephrine, I wouldn't be here today talking to you. So training restaurant employees to make certain that there isn't cross-contact with allergens is so important to keep everyone safe, so what Brittany and Patrick are doing through the 15 and Mahomies Foundation and 15 and FARE, we're going to save lives and educate a lot of folks,” Poblete said.

FARE staffers say the funding will make a big difference as the 15 and FARE initiative rolls out in Kansas City.

“We're going to make certain that in Kansas City, it doesn't matter who you are, rich or poor, they're going to be educated so that they get proper diagnosis and understands the treatment options,” Poblete explained.

The auction for Mahomes custom cleats opened on December 10th. Bids will continue through Feb. 11.
