QUAPAW, Okla. — The holiday season is filled with social events — but good times with good friends often require those in law enforcement to be vigilant — especially this time of the year.
With Christmas and New Years just around the corner, the Quapaw Nation Marshal Service is stepping up enforcement.
"We're going to be a little bit more busy this holiday season. Every holiday season we try and be more active with saturation patrols, so for the coming holiday season we're going to be out in full force, which usually means we're going to have extra officers out,” said Quapaw Nation Marshal Service Deputy, Delshaun Garth.
The extra patrols and overtime began several weeks ago and will run through New Year's Day.
Deputies are not only watching for traffic violations, but for drivers who may be impaired.
"We want people to be safe, we want you to have a good time, but if you're going to drink, you need to have a plan. There's multiple rideshare companies in the area, get a designated driver, do what you can to make sure you're not out driving impaired,” said Deputy Garth.
It's not just the Quapaw Nation Marshal Service looking for impaired drivers.
"Other people around you will notice it. On top of us enforcing, they will call you in, because we as a community watch out for each other, and when they do, we will be there to stop you,” said Deputy Garth.
Deputy Garth says one of the best ways to keep roads and highways safe is through traffic enforcement.
“It prevents crashes, non-injury or fatality. That's what our ultimate goal is at the end of the day is to keep people safe out on the roads,” said Deputy Garth.
The Quapaw Nation Marshal Service says they encourage all drivers to join their efforts to make the roads safer this holiday season.
