Relief in sight as cold front approaches to break heat

The streak continues with 10 straight days of temperatures in the 90s, marking the longest stretch since 2022. Thankfully, just a couple more hot days remain before a break from the heat arrives.

Today, the heatwave will be in full swing. Highs are expected to reach the mid to upper 90s, with the heat index soaring past 100 degrees.

There’s a slight chance for an isolated shower this afternoon. It's a rather low chance, only 5-10%, so most locations are expected to stay dry.

Wednesday will start off hot again, with highs back in the 90s. However, a cold front is forecast to move through later in the evening, finally pushing out the heat.

This front will bring rain and a few sub-severe thunderstorms on Wednesday evening. Most areas will receive less than an inch of rain. While I’m not expecting severe weather, gusty winds and lightning will be possible.

Behind the front, temperatures will cool off nicely. Highs will settle in the 80s for the remainder of the week, giving us a much-needed break from the summer swelter.

Looking further ahead, August is expected to start on the cooler side—but don’t get too comfortable. Model guidance suggests the heat may return by the second week of the month.
