SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released renderings of its newest temples scheduled to be built in multiple cities including Springfield.

Check out the Springfield rendering below:

The Springfield Missouri Temple will be built on a portion of a 38-acre site located at 2720 East Farm Road #188 (off Evans Road near U.S. 65).

The project will include a single-story temple of approximately 29,000 square feet.

A timeline for construction and completion has not been announced. However, when the temple project is completed, the public will be able to tour it during an open house event. After that, following a formal dedication of the facility, only certain LDS church members are allowed to enter.

An explanation of the facility's role is explained in the Frequently Asked Questions section of the church's website:

"In temples, members of the Church make covenants with God to live a virtuous and faithful life. They also offer sacraments on behalf of their deceased ancestors. Latter-day Saint temples are also used to perform marriage ceremonies that promise the faithful eternal life with their families. For members of the Church family is of central importance."

The Springfield Missouri Temple will be the church's second in the Ozarks, behind its Bentonville Arkansas Temple. It will be one of three temples (behind Kansas City and Saint Louis) in Missouri, which is home to 75,000 LDS members across 160 congregations.
