SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Springfield business owner has been sentenced to federal prison for two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
Online court records show that John Michael Felts was in court on Dec. 17, 2024, and was sentenced to two years for each count of fraud, with the sentences to run concurrently. Felts has also been ordered to pay over $8 million in restitution.
Felts owned Taco Habitat, Hot Cluckers, and Bourbon & Beale. According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Missouri, he pleaded guilty to both counts in 2023, admitting that he used his businesses and fake businesses to fraudulently receive loans under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
Documents say Felts conspired to commit fraud as early as January 2018 and continued until at least September 2022. He used the fraudulent funds for various personal purchases, including a yacht, six vehicles, two Rolex watches, various baseball cards, jewelry, construction on his home and real estate.
Felts will be placed on supervised release for three years following his release from prison.
