Security gates to debut at Cortex MetroLink Station Friday

ST. LOUIS -- MetroLink riders will need to pass through new security gates at the Cortex Station starting this Friday. It is the latest location to implement enhanced security measures. Passengers must now show their passes to a Metro Public Safety team member before accessing the platform.

Metro Transit is gradually rolling out its Secure Platform Plan, with the Cortex Station marking the first completed Missouri station in the second phase of the project. Metro staff will manually operate gates until a new fare collection system is integrated.

The initiative follows earlier installations at four stations, including Emerson Park, Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center, Washington Park, and College Stations. Metro plans to complete security gate and fencing installations at all 38 MetroLink stations by January 2026.

Upcoming stations in the second phase of implementation include Forest Park-DeBaliviere, Central West End, Grand, Union Station, Civic Center, and Delmar Loop MetroLink Stations.
