Spire's 'Winterize Kids' event hands out 1,000 coats to children in need

FLORISSANT, Mo. - Local utility company Spire stepped up with a kids coat drive this weekend to help kids stay warm this winter.
Spire hosted its annual "Winterize Kids" event Saturday, offering new coats and resources to kids and their families. More than 1,000 brand new coats were handed out.
Thanks to a partnership between Spire, the Sol Foundation, and iHeartMedia, the coat drive has been going strong since 2012.
"To put a smile on kids faces, every single child deserves a coat in the winter," said Stephen Mills, President of Spire Missouri. "Whether they're going to school, staying a bus stop, or playing, they deserve a coat to stay warm in the winter."
Spire also connected families with financial assistance programs to help them with energy bills during the colder months.
