ST. LOUIS - The City of St. Louis announced an employment change for the role of corrections commissioner Saturday morning.

Officials tell FOX 2 that St. Louis has ended the employment of Jennifer Clemons-Abdullah as Corrections Commissioner.

“Today, Jennifer Clemons-Abdullah’s employment with the City of St. Louis was separated effective immediately. Tammy Ross is currently acting as the Commissioner of Corrections," said Conner Kerrigan, a spokesperson for the City of St. Louis Mayor's Office.

The city had no further comment on the decision.

FOX 2 previously reported that Clemons-Abdullah was on leave from her role as of Sept. 19. At the time, no official explanation had been provided for her sudden leave.

Clemons-Abdullah was appointed by Mayor Tishaura Jones nearly three years ago.

According to a September FOX 2 report, Clemons-Abdullah has faced mounting criticism over her tenure, which has been marred by jail riots, poor inmate healthcare, multiple deaths, and a hostage situation.

This is a developing story. FOX 2 will update as more information becomes available.
