A storm system Thursday into Friday is going to be a significant snowmaker for North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin; even bring some accumulation snow north of I-80 in Illinois. But for St. Louis, this system mostly just brings in a reinforcing shot of cold air.
Clouds will increase Thursday night. Snow flurries aren't ruled out as the front passes by, especially northeast towards Springfield, Ill. Winds will gust 20 to 30 mph overnight as temperatures fall into the 20s.
Wake up wind chills will be in the 10s on Friday. Those winds will stay gusty through Friday morning. Highs Friday will be in the low to mid 30s as skies clear a bit.
A cold but quiet weekend with highs in the 30s Saturday and near 40 F on Sunday. We start to warm up again next week.
Rain is still looking likely, starting Monday night and continuing into Christmas Eve Tuesday. Some rain may still be over far southern Missouri and Illinois on Christmas Day.
Note: The Winter Solstice is Saturday. Only 9 hours and just shy of 28 minutes of daylight on our shortest day of the year.
