ST. LOUIS - The suspect charged with the murder in the Interstate 55 shooting of a teen hockey player had his first court appearance Monday, and he pleaded not guilty to the court.
The courtroom was packed with suspect Garrett Jordan's friends and family as he made his plea. They made no comment but filled about five rows behind him.
Jordan, 26, walked in shackled. His attorney waived the formal hearing and told the judge that Jordan was pleading not guilty.
Jordan is charged with murder and armed criminal action for the Nov. 23 I-55 shooting that killed CBC junior Colin Brown as he was on his way home from a hockey game with his dad.
Brown died Nov. 27, and his organs went to save the lives of four other people, officials said.
Jordan was charged for Brown's murder 20 days after the shooting, following the St. Louis Metropolitan Police's cooperation with several agencies, including the FBI and Illinois State Police.
The judge set a hearing one week from Monday for consideration of a bond reduction. As of now, Jordan is being held without bond.
