Thursday, May 8 forecast: Spotty showers today, sunny tomorrow

We're one day from Friday, and it's looking like a great Mother's Day weekend. Today, however, comes with additional rain showers, some of which could be heavy at times.

This morning, many spots in Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas are dealing with pockets of dense fog. Foggy areas should dissipate by mid-morning. Spotty rain showers today will become most common after noon and through the early evening.

Rain showers go away overnight tonight as the storm system responsible for the rain heads towards the southeast. Friday will kick off a great Mother's Day weekend.

Mostly sunny skies on Friday will make for a nice finish to the week with highs in the low 70s. The weekend looks just as nice with chilly mornings and comfortably warm afternoons.

A reborn form of this week's storm will visit us early next week, slinging clouds and a risk of showers our way Monday. Warm and mostly dry weather will follow on Tuesday through Wednesday. Temperatures will climb to early summer levels by Wednesday, and the day is shaping up to be one of the warmest yet this year.

The warmth may pave the way to severe weather as we close out the week. At the very least, the overall look of the pattern may support episodes of thunderstorm activity through the following weekend.
