Tuesday, May 6 forecast: Rain returns beginning tonight

It's another cool and quiet start to the morning this Tuesday. Like Monday, a few clouds will blow in this afternoon. Temperatures will reach the upper 60s to low 70s. Our next storm system is slowly moving this way and will produce rain around the Ozarks after sunset for many areas.

Scattered rain will continue off and on overnight into Wednesday. Wednesday won't be an all-day rain, but periods of scattered showers may occasionally interrupt plans. Clouds and showers will make for a cool May afternoon with highs in the 60s.

Thursday's weather looks similar, with showers likely flaring back up.

The good news is that severe weather chances through Wednesday and Thursday will be minimal, and rain amounts won't be overly heavy for most. We will have to watch for a localized risk of heavy rainfall, though. Pockets of slow-moving showers could lead to locally excessive rainfall. The risk for this possibility looks highest over Southwest Missouri into Northern Arkansas.

Drier air will work in on Thursday night, shutting off rain and clearing out clouds. This will pave the way to what should be a nice weekend.

Sunshine should find us Friday through Sunday. Overnight temperatures this weekend will be chilly and daytime highs will be comfortably mild. Mother's Day looks like the nicest day of the stretch with highs back in the mid-70s.
