ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A local University City grocery store is set to shut down at the end of the year after over 60 years of service.

Pete’s Shur Save, located at 7434 Olive Boulevard, will permanently close its doors after serving the St. Louis region for 64 years. The market's last day of operations will be Dec. 31.

Inflation and the rise of food prices contributed to the University City staple's decision to shut its doors down.

Pete's was established by owner Peter Sarandos Sr. in 1959, with the first location located on Delmar Boulevard, according to his 2018 obituary. The market, at one point, once had six locations across the St. Louis region. The University City location was the only store remaining and had been located on Olive for more than 20 years.
