West County Mall filled with holiday cheer, last-minute shoppers

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - At West County Mall, just days before Christmas, nostalgia was on full display Monday night as shoppers, families, and friends packed the halls in a last-minute yuletide rush.
Some families said visiting the mall is an annual tradition.
The Strecker family has three daughters, all moved out of the nest now.
“We have taken a picture with Santa every single year since the year I was born, so this is our 26th picture with Santa,” the oldest daughter said.
For others, it’s all about finding those last few items before time runs out.
Krista Hawkins, visiting from Montgomery, Alabama, told Fox 2, “My mom flew off to Nashville on Saturday and left me with a long list of people she needed to shop for, so I’m here tonight getting all of the gifts for my mom for all of her brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews. But she does the cooking!”
Kids had more important matters to attend to, like visiting Saint Nick.
For many, the mall isn’t just about consumerism but spreading holiday cheer.
“My friends are shopping, so I just came here to spread my holiday cheer," August Bates said.
