GREENE COUNTY, Mo. -- An 82-year-old man from Willard is in custody after being accused of shooting someone in the leg overnight on Monday, December 9.
According to online court documents, Greene County deputies were sent to a reported domestic assault at a home in Willard at around midnight. At the scene, deputies found a woman with a gunshot wound in her right leg and a man, identified as Carl Hagar, sitting in a hallway with an empty holster attached to his hip. The woman told deputies Hagar was upset and had been drinking.
The woman said that Hagar wanted her to call emergency services for a lift assist for himself and told her he would kill her when she refused. Hagar then fired his pistol two times before striking her leg with the third shot, according to court documents. She showed the wound to Hagar, who said that he didn't mean to hit her.
Hagar was taken into custody, with deputies saying he yelled at the woman and acted erratic while being transported to Greene County Jail. The woman refused to go to the hospital for her injuries but was later transferred to Mercy after losing consciousness.
Hagar was later charged with first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action. The court has ordered Hagar to continue to be detained pending trial with no bond.
The woman also told deputies that Hagar was diagnosed with dementia seven months ago and had previously been abusive to her.
