BOLIVAR, Mo. — A Bolivar man has been booked in the Polk County Jail for a charge of felony domestic assault after strangling his girlfriend.
According to online court dockets, Doran Snodgrass Jr., born in 1995, is charged with first-degree domestic assault in Polk County Circuit Court.
The probable cause statement says at around 3:35 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a Polk County residence for a report of domestic violence, with the caller saying Snodgrass had strangled her.
Law enforcement found Snodgrass in the home’s master bedroom, where he told them he did assault his girlfriend but claimed it was “self defense.” The statement says he appeared intoxicated.
The victim told law enforcement that Snodgrass grabbed her by the neck with both hands, causing her to take steps backwards toward the rear sliding glass door. He squeezed so tightly around her neck that she couldn’t talk and struggled to breathe, the statement says.
Deputies observed visible dark red coloring that covered from the left side of her jawline to the right side and down to the bottom of her throat, near her collarbone, per the statement.
Snodgrass is being held in the Polk County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison.
