City of Easthampton announces new police chief

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - The City of Easthampton has announced a new Chief of Police on Friday.

The former Easthampton Police Chief Robert Alberti retired due to health reasons last summer. Alberti has served in the Easthampton police department for nearly two and a half decades and has been chief since 2016. Lieutenant Dennis Scribner was appointed interim police chief until the position is filled.

Chad Alexander has been selected as the next Chief of Police for the city. Alexander, an Easthampton native, has served the Easthampton Police Department for over 20 years and has consistently demonstrated leadership, dedication to public service, and a strong commitment to building community relationships. He has a deep understanding of the department and the city, which makes him qualified to lead the force.

The next steps for Alexander are contract negotiations and the formal appointment process with the Easthampton City Council. After these steps are completed, he will officially assume the role of Chief of Police.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to lead the department that I have been a part of my entire adult life, and continue to serve the residents of Easthampton," said Alexander. "Numerous people and officers have molded me into the person and police officer I am, and I will be forever grateful. This is an exciting time for me, my family, and my Easthampton Police Department family.”

Mayor Nicole LaChapelle commented on Alexander’s readiness to step into the role: “Chad Alexander’s deep roots in Easthampton and long-standing commitment to public safety make him the right leader at the right time. His integrity, compassion, and professionalism stood out throughout the process. I am confident that under his leadership, the department will continue to evolve and strengthen its relationship with the community.”

Candidates interested had until January 17th to apply for the position. Public Safety Consultants, which specializes in law enforcement leadership recruitment, helped form a selection committee to choose the optimal candidate for the job. City officials, law enforcement experts and community stakeholders also took part in the process.
