Crosswalk reconstruction in the Commercial Street Historic District

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The City of Springfield will be reconstructing crosswalks in the Commercial Street Historic District starting Monday, July 28.

The city's contractor will begin with the crosswalks at the intersection of Commercial Street and Boonville Avenue and also the intersection of Commercial Street and Jefferson Avenue. Crews will work east from there.

The work will replace stamped asphalt surfaces with concrete for aesthetic improvement, durability, ease of maintenance and to remain compliant with the Americans with disabilities act.

Crews are working to minimize impacts to on-street parking as well as traffic. Crews will only close one to two intersections at a time for roughly two days each.

Roadwork aims to wrap up by 6 a.m. On Wednesday, July 30.

All businesses will be open through construction.

These improvements will cost about $150,000, with funding provided by the County Road and Bridge Tax Fund.

The project should wrap up by fall 2025.
