ST. LOUIS – The 19-year-old who injured six people with his car in the Ted Drewes parking lot over the weekend made his first court appearance on Tuesday.
Rasool Al Janabi is charged with five counts of leaving the scene of an accident causing physical injury.
A St. Louis Circuit Court judge allowed Al Janabi to leave jail but placed him under house arrest until his next court date on Jan. 24, 2025. The 19-year-old will be allowed to go to work and school in the meantime.
The crash happened around 8 p.m. on Sunday. Police said Al Janabi apparently swerved to avoid something in the road and then crashed into metal barriers along the parking lot at Ted Drewes, striking five people. Al Janabi injured a sixth person while backing his vehicle up.
Police said Al Janabi initially fled and went home, but he returned to the scene with a family member and was taken into custody. A 21-year-old woman, a 17-year-old boy, a 55-year-old man, a 39-year-old man, and a 12-year-old girl were taken to the hospital. An 82-year-old man was also injured.
