Locals line up with dreams of billion-dollar Mega Millions jackpot

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – Many are seeking a late-hour stocking stuffer in Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing, which could lead to an ultimate pay day: a grand prize worth over $1 billion.
"I came here for some juice, and I figured I might as well get one of these Mega Million Lotto tickets," Will Donlow said after his solo-pick purchase at the local 7-Eleven. "I never play, but I figured why not? It's $2 and you never know. I'm feeling lucky."
The 10 p.m. drawing would net a solo winner less than half of that amount if they selected the lump sum payout option: an estimated $448 million.
For most, any winning ticket would be a welcomed treat.
"This would be a great Christmas present for everyone," said Debbie Jacobson of Creve Coeur. "My whole big family. Cousins, aunts, uncles. Everyone."
"I'd help family and friends," said Nukinya Carbon of St. Louis. "I mean, that's a lot of money; so, you know, I'd give back."
If a solo person wins the grand prize, the billion-dollar bundle will be the largest jackpot ever won in the month of December.
