SPRINGFIELD, MO - Progress is being made on a set of interconnected road projects that will ultimately improve traffic while also opening up a corner of the city for new development.
In recent months, contractors have been working on widening LeCompte Road north of Division St-Route YY. Another project is the extension of Eastgate Avenue, from its current endpoint at Division, north and then back east to LeCompte.
This week, Ozarks First visited the site and captured some overhead video of the work in progress (see below).
In addition to the expansions, the road improvements will also include stoplights at Division and Eastgate, turn lanes on Division, and a walking/biking path.
The city says the goal of the project is to improve traffic flow and safety in the area, leading to Springfield Underground and other nearby industries.
The project is being funded with the ⅛-cent transportation sales tax, state funding, and a private-public partnership. It’s set to be dine sometime this coming winter.
