Fool’s Gold Fraud: Missouri woman caught selling fake gold bars

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – A Missouri woman is accused of selling several fake gold bars to a Festus man over a two-month period last year.

According to the Festus Police Department’s probable cause statement, the victim contacted authorities on Dec. 12, 2024, to report he’d been scammed.

The victim said he purchased a total of 14, one ounce gold bars from Alyssa D. Robert on five occasions between Oct. 1 and Nov. 27, 2024.

Robert would visit the victim’s home to make each sale. The victim bought two bars at a time and paid Robert $4,000 in cash with each purchase, police said.

The victim only learned the bars were fake after taking them to be examined. The probable cause statement did not say what substance the bars were made of.

Police finally contacted Robert in summer 2025 to question her about the phony gold bars.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Robert with 10 counts of forgery. Robert was issued a criminal summons and ordered to appear in court on Monday, Sept. 8.
