Greene County Assessor to make relief available for storm-damaged homes

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Greene County residents will now be able to apply for property tax relief if their homes were destroyed by storms from Tuesday, April 29.
According to Greene County Assessor Brent Johnson, because Greene County is an "Occupancy Law" county under Missouri Law, the Assessor can prorate the taxable value of residences that are rendered inhabitable during national disasters.
"After personally witnessing the extensive damage sustained by many homes in our community, I want to ensure that residents are aware of this opportunity to reduce their property tax burden while their homes are unoccupied and undergoing repairs," Assessor Johnson said.
Eligible residents will receive property tax relief in the form of property value. Property owners can apply for prorated property value by filling out the Destroyed Residential Property Claim Form on the Greene County Assessor's website.
Property owners can receive further assistance for this program by contacting the Greene County Assessor’s Office at 417-868-4101 or exemptions@greenecountymo.gov.
