ST. LOUIS - A man who boasted about selling drugs while on house arrest in a music video was sentenced to decades behind bars in connection with a deadly St. Louis County overdose.

A federal judge sentenced Deontae’ Tre’Von Overall, 28, to 23 years and eight months in prison on Tuesday after jurors convicted him of one count of distribution of fentanyl resulting in death.

Investigators say Overall sold the fake Percocet pills that killed a man in St. Louis County in 2022.

Evidence and testimony at Overall’s trial in September revealed that the victim and Overall exchanged cell phone messages on Dec. 3, 2022, during which the victim sought the prescription pain pill Percocet.

The victim, whose identity has been withheld, bought three pills from Overall that appeared to be Percocet The victim died later that evening from fentanyl intoxication caused by ingesting the fake Percocet.

“The victim of this man’s illegal business was poisoned by a pill," said Assistant Special Agent in Charge Colin Dickey, head of Drug Enforcement Administration operations in Eastern Missouri, via a news release. "No one could have known was in it."

Investigators say a drug sale involving an undercover officer and a court-approved search of Overall's home in 2023 were significant developments in uncovering his role in the fatal overdose.

On Tuesday, during Overall's sentencing hearing, a judge said that Overall “glorified” the drug trade by referring to a music video in which Overall discussed selling drugs while on house arrest and displayed his ankle monitor.

“I’m going to send a message to other drug dealers,” said U.S. District Judge Matthew T. Schelp.

Overall was also ordered to pay $21,736 in restitution to his victim’s family.
