SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield Police Department is reminding parents to be cautious about what they post on social media for first day back-to-school pictures.
A spokesperson with SPD tells Ozarks First that revealing personal information about your children on the internet, no matter the privacy settings, can be used by both scammers and predators, leaving kids at risk.
SPD advises people against posting the following information:
AVOID USING
- Child's full name
- Age
- Grade
- Name of school
- Names of teachers
- Identifying features of your location
Instead, parents should share info that cannot be traced, such as:
CAN USE
- Child's first name
- Favorite school subject
- Favorite activity
- What the want to be when they grow up
