Springfield Water and Sewer Commission releases FY26 budget with proposed monthly charge

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Even though there is a downward trend in water and sewer consumption, the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission told 22News that federal and state funding is potentially declining.
Therefore, on May 1, 2025, the Commission released its Fiscal Year 2026 budget with no increase in rates, but with a new charge being proposed. The new Infrastructure Renewal Charge is proposed to support more predictable household water and sewer bills.
When Fiscal Year 20-26 begins, the new IRC added to accounts will be $11.50 each month for meters less than 1". Larger meter sizes will have a larger monthly IRC. It will be reviewed and adjusted annually.
For those who need help paying their bills, the Commission is proposing to expand its customer assistance programs. More information about the proposed budget will be discussed at a virtual public hearing on June 4th at 6 pm.
