Sunshine Street over MNA railroad in Springfield to close for bridge replacement

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The project to replace the Sunshine Street bridge over the Missouri & Northern Arkansas (MNA) Railroad is moving forward after a delay.

According to MoDOT, the portion of Sunshine Street over the MNA Railroad between Scenic Avenue and Kansas Expressway will close starting on Sunday, August 4. MoDOT crews will replace the bridge and make improvements to pedestrian facilities from Scenic Avenue to Marion Avenue.

The bridge was originally going to be closed starting March 17, but was delayed due to construction delays around the MNA Railroad.

MoDOT says the Sunshine Street bridge was built in 1963 and carries up to 26,164 vehicles a day.

The project is expected to be completed by Dec. 1, 2025. The estimated cost of the project is around $5.9 million.

More information about the project will be on MoDOT's website.
