Two injured in North King Street crash in Northampton

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - A two-car crash on North King Street Thursday afternoon sent two people to the hospital and briefly disrupted traffic after one vehicle caught fire and leaked fluids onto the roadway, officials said.

According to Northampton Fire Rescue, Engine 2 and Ambulance 5 were called to the scene, where they discovered a small fire in the passenger compartment of one of the vehicles. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and began assessing the scene.

Both vehicles sustained damage in the crash, and two occupants were brought to a nearby hospital with injuries, but are expected to be okay. In addition to the fire, officials noted that a large quantity of engine fluids had spilled onto the road, prompting concerns about road safety. The Department of Public Works was called to the scene to apply sand over the affected area to absorb the fluids and prevent the roadway from becoming slick.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
