ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - Breckenridge Hills police released body camera footage last week of a police pursuit that led to an officer-involved shootout off Natural Bridge in October.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, an officer with the Breckenridge Hills Police Department initially conducted a traffic stop of a 2014 Lexus near Calvert and North avenues around 4:30 p.m on October 30.
The traffic stop was for a license plate violation and excessively tinted windows. When the suspect, Je'Von Henderson, pulled over for the officer, he was reportedly intoxicated, and the officer placed a tire deflation device on the front of the Lexus.
The officer asked Henderson to step out of the vehicle, but Henderson took off.
Police pursued the Lexus onto the ramp of southbound Interstate 170. Henderson eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch at Natural Bridge Road I-170.
According to the probable cause statement, when officers arrived at the scene and approached the Lexus, Henderson pointed a pistol at an officer and opened fire. Police returned fire and reportedly shot 87 times before striking Henderson.
Police said they found a 9 mm pistol and an AR-style pistol in the front compartment of the Lexus. A large amount of suspected marijuana was seen on the floorboard as well.
Henderson has been charged with first-degree assault or attempt, armed criminal action, and resisting arrest. He is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on January 9 at the St. Louis County Circuit Courts.
