SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — City Council is expected to vote Monday, July 28 on an ordinance that could expand alcohol permits for events in Springfield, specifically along Downtown, Walnut and Commercial Street.
Currently, only a select number of events are permitted each year to sell alcoholic beverages. If it passes, possibly hundreds more would be able to do so.
People I've spoken to today tell me they approve of the plan.
"I think the voting for the extended capacity would be good," says Colin Graham.
Graham says cutting the cap on permits could help the Springfield community socialize and also benefit businesses in the area.
"Honestly, I think that'll probably be a pretty good thing that could happen," says Jeffrey Pastori, "That could probably attract more people to Downtown Springfield."
When asked if they believe the measure should be passed, they said yes.
Even if approved, each event would have to be approved by City Council and would be required to outline safety measures on how to prevent minors from purchasing the drinks.
