Heatwave to approach triple digits before relief arrives soon

Just like it gets darkest before dawn, this heatwave is going to peak before any relief finally arrives.

Temperatures are expected to climb slightly higher today and tomorrow. Trust me, when it’s this hot, every degree counts.

Highs this afternoon will reach the mid to upper 90s under mostly sunny skies, accompanied by a light southwest breeze. While most areas will stay dry, there's a slight chance of an isolated shower, mainly to the south.

Tuesday looks just as brutal, with many locations flirting with triple-digit temperatures for the first time this year.

The heat index will easily top 100 degrees on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Relief finally arrives late Wednesday as a cold front sweeps across the Ozarks. Rain chances will increase with its passage. Severe storms aren’t a major concern, but with such a humid atmosphere in place, localized downpours and flash flooding are possible.

Cooler and more comfortable conditions settle in to close out the week. Highs will be stuck in the 80s, with sunshine making a return just in time for the weekend.
