SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Marty Marsh joined the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) in July as the new education district supervisor for the 17-county Southwest Region.

According to an MDC press release, Marsh has plans to help superintendents, principals, curriculum directors, athletic directors and teachers in southwest Missouri in adding conservation-oriented themes into the classroom.
Marsh plans to promote MDC's Discover Nature Schools (DNS) program that incorporates outdoor learning into multiple school subjects. The program encourages hands-on learning, teaching problem-solving and gives teachers innovative outdoor-based options to add to their curriculum.
MDC says that Marsh plans to also encourage hunter education in the classroom and the Missouri National Archery in the Schools Program (MoNASP).
“As I begin my work with MDC, I feel confident that my 31 years of service in public education and athletic administration will provide a strong foundation for my work in my new position,” Marsh said in the release. “I’m looking forward to working with schools to promote conservation education and other initiatives that will connect them with nature and the beauty of our statewide resources.”
