MONETT, Mo. — Monett has announced a new fire chief following the city's interview of five potential candidates for the position.

According to a City of Monett press release, Brandon Pennington accepted the position of Monett Fire Chief on Monday, August 4.
The release says Pennington plans to develop long-term plans for the growth and development of the department, which include organizational development, staffing and service delivery. He also plans to train all members adequately and to provide ongoing professional development.
Pennington has served as the Monett Fire Captain for three years before being appointed as the interim fire chief.
Pennington has served 21 years as a firefighter and was first hired by the Monett department in June 2010.
The city will swear Pennington in on Thursday, Aug. 14, at a Monett City Council meeting.
