HIGHLANDVILLE, Mo. — A rare albino donkey was born last week on a farm in Highlandville.
Pat and Lynn Kenpen have an assortment of animals running around on Highland Hills Ranch. One that easily stands out is the newest member of the farm, an albino donkey.
"Right now, we are calling her Dotty or Pearl," said Pat. "We haven't decided just yet."
Pearl was born last week to her parents, Jesse the Donkey and Gildey. She is almost completely white except for the tip of her left ear. Pearl is now part of a rare group of white donkeys found around the world, with the largest population living on the island of Asinara in Italy.
"This is sort of a hobby for us. We didn't plan to start raising donkeys," said Lynn. "We were so surprised when we found her because [Pearl's parents] are [brown]."
According to one source, there are only about 300 albino donkeys in the world. One hundred white donkeys live in Asinara.
