Springfield police raid Salem Street apartment, seize guns and drugs

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Three people were arrested after detectives recovered two illegal firearms and drugs from an apartment on Salem Street in Springfield on Thursday.
In a news release from the Springfield Police Department, over the last several months an investigation was conducted into the illegal activity stemming from an apartment on Salem Street.
On Thursday, at around 9:15 p.m., law enforcement executed a search warrant after receiving information that crack-cocaine was being sold out of the apartment and firearms were inside. Upon arrival, detectives detained 40-year-old Darin Smith of Springfield and a 17-year-old boy. A 16-year-old boy was taken into custody on Maple Street, who police believe jumped out of the window when police arrived.
During the search, police seized two illegal firearms, one of which was loaded, and $450. The 17-year-old boy was allegedly caught with nine grams of crack-cocaine, and the 16-year-old boy allegedly had approximately 2.5 grams of crack-cocaine. The three suspects were then arrested.


Darin Smith is charged with the following:
- Carrying a Firearm without a License – 2nd Offense (Two Counts)
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License – 2nd Offense
- Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony (Two Counts)
- Firearm Violation with 2 Prior Violent/Drug Crimes (Two Counts)
- Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm (Two Counts)
- Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
- Improper Storage of a Firearm (Two Counts)
The Springfield police did not release the names, booking photos, and charges of the teenagers due to their age.
