SPRINGFIELD -- The 36th annual Price Cutter Charity Championship tees off Thursday in Springfield. There is some important information fans need to know if they plan to attend.

The tournament returns to Highland Springs Country Club from Thursday, July 17 through Sunday, July 20, bringing four days of professional golf and community impact to the Ozarks. Part of the Korn Ferry Tour, the tournament showcases rising stars aiming to qualify for the PGA Tour while raising money for dozens of area children’s charities.

Storms may threaten opening round

Our Ozarks First Weather team is forecasting rain south of I-44 sometime after noon on Thursday. Some of those storms may become severe, with potential wind gusts of up to 50-60 mph at times. There is potential for flooding in some areas of the Ozarks. Rain chances will linger Friday, but temperatures will soar into the low 90's for the weekend rounds.

Charities that benefit in 2025

Now in it's 36 year history, the championship has raised more than $19.4 million for local nonprofits since 1990. This year the tournament lists 40 charities or non-profits on its website. Some of those include Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks, Special Olympics Missouri, and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

The tournament's impact was recently under scrutiny after a $750,000 shortfall in 2024 charity disbursements. A new leadership team at the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, which manages the tournament, addressed the issue by cutting costs and launching supplemental fundraising efforts. As of July 11, 2025, the Hall of Fame announced that all funds owed from 2024 have been distributed to the participating nonprofits.

PGA Tour hopefuls compete

There is a $1,000,000 purse on the line for the golfers looking to break onto the PGA Tour. The winner will take a $180,000 prize. David Kocher is the only former champion competing at this year’s Price Cutter Charity Championship.

His record-setting 72-hole score of 28-under par from 2022 still stands as the tournament low. However, that record may be challenged this week by Korn Ferry Tour rookie Neal Shipley. This season, Shipley and Austin Smotherman are the only two players who have won multiple tournaments.

Last year's winner, Matt McCarty, is currently on the PGA Tour. His Official World Golf Ranking stands at 46th as he heads into The Open this week, PGA's final major of the season.

You can find our coverage of the tour here on our website, and on OzarksFirst news on both KOLR and KRBK. The live leaderboard for the tournament can be found here.
