4-year-old dies after shooting himself with a gun
A four-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital after shooting himself with a gun on Friday, and his condition is currently unknown.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A four-year-old boy has died after being shot on Friday.
A representative with the Springfield Police Department told Ozarks First that after further investigation, it was determined it was an accidental shooting. The child shot himself.
Officers were sent to the 900 block of North Fulbright Ave. a little bit after 12:15 p.m. for reports of a four-year-old child who shot themself with a gun.o
The child was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced dead around 4 p.m.
People in the neighborhood told Ozarks First the news was devastating.
"I heard all the sirens everything coming out," said Marcy Hanes, a neighbor. "I was just heartbroken because I walked out and they were giving a child CPR."
Hanes said she's lived in the northwest Springfield neighborhood for over 10 years.
"I've never seen anything like that. It broke my heart," Hanes said.
Avis Houston, another neighbor, said she didn't know the family very well but noted the parents were home "all the time" with the kids. "They were really nice and good neighbors," she said.
The situation hits home with Houston, as she lost her own son years ago.
"It's the hardest night to ever try to sleep," Houston said. "I have to say this — the sun will come up tomorrow."
