Cooler weather and rain to break heatwave
A much-needed cooldown is coming today with rain and cooler temperatures, but temperatures will still climb to the mid-90s before the rain arrives in the afternoon and evening.

A much-needed shakeup in the nearly two week long heatwave arrives today as we push out all the heat and humidity.
Rain and cooler temperatures are headed our way, but they aren't scheduled to arrive until later this afternoon and evening. That means temperatures will still climb to a toasty level. Highs will climb into the mid-90s with the feels-like forecast exceeding 100 degrees.
Quiet to start the day, with rain chances ramping up later in the afternoon we get. Our northernmost counties find themselves under a marginal 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather today. I am not expecting strong storms; however, gusty winds, lightning strikes, and localized downpours will be possible.
Rain will increase in coverage overnight tonight with scattered showers lingering into the start of the day Thursday.
Totals will be on the lighter side as most locations will fall short of 1" of rain.
The nice part about the forecast will be the cooler temperatures. Highs decrease from the 90s into the low 80s. Thankfully, the cooldown lingers for the first week of August.
Enjoy it while you can, and we will gradually be warming back up. Heat and humidity will be making a return by the second week of the month.
