Heatwave to bring 100-degree temperatures

The heatwave has officially arrived, bringing with it some of the hottest temperatures we've seen in years.

Today's high fell just a couple of degrees short of hitting the triple digits. While we didn’t quite make it today, we’ll reset, reload, and make another run at the century mark tomorrow.

This weekend is shaping up to be a scorcher. Expect mostly sunny skies with only a light breeze from the south. Several spots are likely to hit 100 degrees on both Saturday and Sunday.

The heat will linger into the start of the workweek. In fact, I’m forecasting Springfield to reach 100 degrees on Monday. A mark we haven't achieved since August 2023.

During the peak daylight hours of this heatwave, heat index values will range from 100 to 106 degrees.

Relief is on the horizon. A much-needed cooldown is expected by the middle of next week. A cold front will move in on Wednesday, bringing temperatures back down to seasonal averages and reintroducing the chance for light rain.
