One pedestrian dies in Springfield crash, second pedestrian injured

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield Police Department (SPD) said a pedestrian was killed and another pedestrian was injured in a crash last night.
SPD officers responded to a motor vehicle crash in the 3200 block of W. Chestnut Expressway at 8:59 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, according to a press release.
The release said Tyler Reid, 34, of Springfield, was driving a 2016 Jeep Compass eastbound on Chestnut Expressway and hit two pedestrians who were in the roadway.
The release said both pedestrians were transported to the hospital.
Ronnie Wake, 56, of Springfield, died from his injuries. Wake's next of kin have been notified, per the release.
The second pedestrian sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The SPD said this was Springfield’s 14th fatal motor vehicle crash in 2025, which resulted in 15 deaths.
