SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Birthplace of Route 66 Festival is coming back to downtown Springfield from August 8-9, and the city is asking for volunteers to help with the festival.

Organizers say they need over 100 volunteers to help run the event, which features live music, car and motorcycle shows, food, exhibits and shopping. The City of Springfield says 65,000 or more visitors come to the celebration each year.

Volunteers will fill roles such as staffing information and merchandise tents, helping with a classic car parade and show registration and supporting activities in the Motorcycle Village and entertainment areas.

“We rely on community volunteers to create a welcoming experience for tens of thousands of guests,” said event director Cora Scott in a press release. “It’s a fun way to be part of one of Springfield’s signature events.”

Volunteers can sign up at route66festivalsgf.com. For volunteering, they will receive a festival T-shirt, a Discovery Center pass and $5 in Hold Fast Beer Bucks.
