A 24-year-old St. Louis man was taken into custody after fleeing from deputies at speeds over 100 mph. Earlier this week, a vehicle police pursuit in Montgomery County, Missouri, ended in a hair-raising fashion.
The pursuit began at approximately 9:36 am by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop B involving a suspect with multiple outstanding warrants. Originating in Northern Missouri, the suspect traveled south on Hwy 63 and continued eastbound on I-70. Troop B eventually terminated the pursuit before entering a construction zone due to safety concerns.
Montgomery County deputies received information about the suspect's vehicle and strategically positioned themselves for reengagement.
The following account has been provided by the Montgomery County sheriff's office via their Facebook page:
"At approximately 10:07 am, deputies observed the vehicle near the 176.2-mile marker. Upon activating emergency lights and attempting a traffic stop, the driver accelerated aggressively, reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour while weaving through traffic and using the shoulder of the roadway to unlawfully pass other vehicles. The suspect exited at the 179-mile marker in High Hill, MO, failed to yield at the stop sign, lost control, skidding sideways, and nearly colliding with a marked patrol vehicle at a high rate of speed. The driver regained control and re-entered eastbound I-70.
As the vehicle approached the 184-mile marker, Jonesburg Police successfully deployed spike strips, puncturing both the front and rear passenger-side tires. Despite this, the suspect continued eastbound and exited the Interstate at the 186-mile marker, driving through a ditch onto the South Service Road. The vehicle then turned south on Scudder Ranch Road, continued at a high rate of speed, and turned east on Warren County State Highway B.
Approximately 1.5 miles later while traveling on Highway B the suspect lost control, the vehicle left the roadway and overturned multiple times before coming to rest in a nearby cornfield."
Despite the vehicle rolling over multiple times, the driver sustained only minor injuries as a result of the crash. They were transported to a medical facility for evaluation before being transported to jail.
He is currently being held in the Montgomery County jail without bond for the following charges:
- Aggravated Feeling from Law Enforcement
- Operating a Motor Vehicle in a Careless and Imprudent Manner
- Operating a Motor Vehicle without a Valid License
