Summer heat returns after an early fall preview

A cool front has brought cooler temperatures to the area, with smoke from western wildfires continuing to blow through, but the weekend should still be ideal for outdoor activities with mild temperatures and light winds.

Summer heat returns after an early fall preview

Thursday's cool front is making a big difference with temperatures running well below normal and about 15° off of highs earlier this week. In the summer, that's a big spread.

Smoke from western wildfires will continue to blow through our skies for the same reason a cold front was able to clear the area and cool things off. Despite the haze, it's still going to be a nice weekend with temperatures that are more typical of mid-September. Mild readings and quiet weather with light winds should be nearly ideal for outdoor summer plans, especially those geared toward camping, hiking, or just sitting on your patio.

Temperatures at night will drop into the upper 50s and low 60s with afternoon highs in the low 80s.

Back to work weather will come with a little more cloud cover as a rain trigger moves through the region. The atmosphere will be so moisture-starved that it will be tough to generate any rain. Additional clouds and a steady flow of mild, dry air on easterly winds will keep temperatures below normal.

Those east to southeast winds will air condition the area and hold off the excessive heat for a few days. But by mid-week summer heat will creep back in.

The pause in summer heat will be followed by another round of hot weather through the second half of next week into the following weekend. The silver lining is relatively low humidity levels.

The overall pattern is a dry one with Mother Nature remaining very stingy with rain chances until the following weekend when a front may move into the area.
